Symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD or pelvic girdle pain) involves discomfort at the front or back of the pelvic joints and is one of the most common issues we see in our office. (According to The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, 31.7% of pregnant women have experienced SPD!)
The pubic symphysis helps keep the pelvis together and steady, and during pregnancy, the ligaments become stretchy or relaxed, which can lead to instability, discomfort, or a shooting or aching pain in the pelvic joint and other areas of the lower body.
Ongoing chiropractic adjustments to optimize the pelvic and spinal position is an excellent way to ease your pregnancy discomfort woes ☺️. Dr. Emily Burgess utilizes the Webster Technique and ready to help! (The Webster Technique is a diagnostic system and specific pregnancy chiropractic adjustment.)

There are also a few things you can do at home to ease discomfort:
🛌 Sleep with a pillow between your knees
🤰 Avoid sitting for too long
❄️ Apply an ice pack to the pelvic area
🏃♀️ Stay active but avoid activities that cause pain
👟 Wear supportive shoes
🚙 Keep your knees together when getting in and out of the car or rolling over in bed
💪 Perform Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles
